Code of Conduct and Policies

Students should greet their teachers when they enter in the classroom. Students will have to pay a fine and also pay the cost of repair/replacement if they cause any damage to the college property. The principal reserves the right to dismiss any student from the college whose conduct is against the moral tone of the college, immorality in word or deed, wilful damage to college property, grave insubordination, contempt of any authority, unsatisfactory progress in studies and lack of diligence.

Academic Integrity

Integrity is one of the core values at Kuttukaran Polytechnic College. The college recognizes that largely the level of interaction between students, parents, teachers and administrators determines the quality of any discipline policy. The KPTC believes that Academic integrity is reinforced by the faculty as an element of the teaching and learning process. Only in limited instances which call for stern disciplinary action, the Disciplinary Committee shall consider sanctions, warning, or in rare cases, removal of a student from the academic program. Parents are vital to the success of the College process. They have the responsibility in shared partnership with the college to reinforce acceptable standards of behaviour as well as the entire learning process at home.

Mobile Usage Policy

In accordance with the State Board of Technical Education (SBTE) policy, mobiles are not allowed in instructional areas like classrooms, laboratories, and library and seminar hall. Everyone will switch off his/her mobile phone in the above said area. Use of ear phones/blue tooth devices in the campus is strictly prohibited.

Prohibition of Smoking/Alcohol/Drugs

Smoking is prohibited at all locations within the campus to promote a healthy atmosphere for all members of KPTC. Students are strictly prohibited from consuming any alcoholic or similar intoxicating drinks and drugs inside the college campus/college bus/college hostel.

Dress Code

Being a valuable asset of the institution, every student is its brand ambassador. The behaviour and the personal appearance of the student reflects on him/her as well as the institution. For boys the dress code is a neatly ironed golden yellow coloured half sleeve shirt paired with formal black pants and black shoes. For girls, the dress code is black churidar with golden yellow coloured top and black waist coat and appropriate accessories and footwear. In workshops/laboratories, both boys and girls have to wear uniform with dark blue over coat compulsorily. The above prescribed uniform is compulsory on all days for students of Kuttukaran Polytechnic College. Entry to the campus without proper uniform is strictly prohibited.

This excludes low waist jeans, clothes with cuts or holes frayed/track pants/shorts, dresses above knee length and slippers. Long hair and visible body piercing is not permitted in case of boys

Anti-Ragging Act:

Ragging is strictly prohibited and is a punishable offence as per the provisions of following Acts and Regulations
If any student is found involved in guilty of or abetting the ragging strict disciplinary action shall be initiated and the student shall be penalized as per the provisions of above acts and regulations. Ragging incidents if reported, expulsion from the college and imprisonment up to 3 years will be given to the students involved in it. The Anti-Ragging Committee is responsible for administering the discipline system on the campus.

All the students and their parents are required to submit an affidavit separately to the institution at the time of seeking admission regarding not to indulge in ragging or to abet ragging by any means so as to prevent ragging in the institution.

Admission Criteria

First Year Diploma Admission

The candidate shall have passed SSLC/THSLC or equivalent examination, with eligibility for higher studies.

Note:-
A candidate who has taken more than two chances to secure eligibility for higher studies in SSLC/THSLC or equivalent examinations are not eligible for admission.
Appearances for “Betterment” or “SAY” examination shall not be considered as a chance. For CBSE/ICSE/Open school candidates the Marks/Grades obtained in Science is considered for calculating grade in the place of Physics and Chemistry. As per Circular No. Acad 03/2019 dated 10th January 2019, CBSE school candidates who have passed qualifying examination with Mathematics-Standard are only eligible to apply for stream I and stream II.

Direct Second Year Diploma Admission

The candidate should have passed +2/equivalent examination/VHSE with Mathematics, physics and chemistry/other relevant mandatory additional course as per table below(AICTE APH 22-23, page 90) after completion of 2 years regular course.

In the case of +2/VHSE, the candidate should have a minimum score of 50% in Physics,

Mathematics and other relevant mandatory additional course put together. In case of VHSE, the candidate should have a separate pass in Physics, Mathematics / additional Mathematics and other relevant mandatory additional course.

In the case of candidates who have passed 2 years matric courses of NCVT/SCVT/KGCE, they shall have a minimum of 50% of the aggregate marks in the qualifying examination and they will be considered for admission to any branch of Engineering and Technology.

Duration of the Programme

The duration of a Diploma programme shall be of 3 academic years, consisting of 6 consecutive semesters. The maximum duration permissible for acquiring diploma shall be 6 academic years from the commencement of the programme.

Minimum Credits to be Earned for Award of Diploma

A student shall acquire the minimum credits for each course/category of courses as prescribed in the curriculum and satisfy such other criteria fixed by the state Board of Technical Education, to be entitled for the award of diploma in the programme.

Programme Registration

Each student admitted to the programme shall be required to take the registration for programme. This registration shall be valid for 6 academic years. If He/She fails to earn the diploma within a period of 6 academic years , his/her registration shall be treated as cancelled and will forfeit the credits already earned for the programme

Scholarships

Scholarships provide an opportunity for many students to earn an education. Without financial assistance from an outside, some students may face trouble paying for the degree they are pursuing in order to enter the workforce and become a contributing member of economy. A student’s priority is gaining knowledge, academic performance can suffer greatly when a student finds, it difficult to arrange for finance or gets into debts and loans to fund his/her education. Not only do scholarship recipients get valuable financial support, they also learn the importance of philanthropy and giving back. To lessen the financial burden on many students, the following scholarships are facilitated at the College.

Roll Number

Each student will be allotted a unique roll number which will be used throughout his/her course.

Institute Timings

College timings are fixed from 9.00 am to 4.10 pm. Students should strictly follow the class timing as directed by the Principal. Students should not leave the college campus during class hours without the permission of the Principal/Dean/Class tutor.

Identity Card

Entry to the campus without ID card is strictly prohibited. Each student shall have his/her Identity Card. He/She needs to wear it in the campus. Display/possession of identity cards by all occupants of the campus is mandatory for identification and security reasons. Students are advised to carry it with them even outside the campus as it may be useful for them to prove their identity when asked by any authority. Ensure that the address on the Identity Card is correct and always get it updated in case of any change. Report lost/damaged identity card to the college authorities without any delay and follow the procedure to get a temporary Identity Card. Temporary Identity Card shall be issued on submission of application in a prescribed format along with fees of Rs.30/- . Replacement card shall be issued on submission of application in a prescribed format along with fees of Rs.50/-.

Residential address and phone numbers

Provide the correct residential address and phone number to the college office. In case of any change, inform the authorities immediately. Students staying in hostels should also provide permanent address and phone number.

Curriculum

The curriculum prescribed by the State Board of Technical Education (SBTE) is taught during the term. For course curriculum, please visit www.sitttrkerala.ac.in Attendance As per the rules and regulations of SBTE, it is necessary for every student to attend at least 75% of lectures and practical of every subject. Students are advised to attend all lectures and practical which can certainly prove to be beneficial for them. Student attendance is monitored by the class tutors of the respective department

Examinations

No exemption will be given to any student failing to appear for the series examination, except on medical grounds. End of Semester Examinations are conducted by the State Board of Technical Education (SBTE) at the end of each semester. All the eligible students, need to do the Semester registration and exam registration to fill the examination form online on the link produced below The requisite exam fee will be paid through online, prior to every semester examination. All the students have to fill the examination form online along with the requisite fees. Late fees are applicable on delayed payment towards examination fees. Please note that, rules related to the eligibility for examination are available in the examination cell. Rules are subject to change by the SBTE. Roll Out and Readmission

A student with 15 days of continuous absence shall be removed from roll. He/she shall be readmitted only if he/she is claimed for readmission within 15 days from the dare of roll out. Readmission can be sought only to the semester in which he was studying at the time of rolled out. Attendance for eligibility for appearing to the semester examination for such cases shall be counted from the commencement of the semester.

Repeating a Semester

A student with less than 75% of attendance and has not condoned the shortage of attendance or has attendance less than 65% or he/she had not completed all the prescribed laboratory, practical, workshop practical or any other kind of practical including drawing, field work, project work etc. as prescribed in the curriculum and got certified by the Head of Department of the concerned programme shall have to repeat the semester. He/She can repeat the semester only with the succeeding batch as and when it is offered in the institution and this shall be on the discretion of the Principal on being satisfied as to the genuineness of the absence. In case of scheme change, the student has to earn credits for the equivalent and additional subjects decided by the Department of Technical Education.

Assessment

Students in each semester shall be assessed by Continuous Internal Assessment and End Semester Examinations. The End Semester Examination shall be held for all the courses twice in a year–October/November session (for odd semesters only) and April/May session (for even semesters only). The end semester examination for the fifth and sixth semesters shall be conducted in both the sessions.

Minimum Rquirements for Award of Diploma

A student shall acquire the credits as prescribed in the curriculum for each course and satisfy other criteria fixed by State Board of Technical Education. He/she shall acquire a minimum of 40% marks and earn a pass in all courses prescribed in the curriculum. Also he/she shall have completed all curriculum requirements including earning the required activity points and completion of internship I and II within the stipulated duration of the programme.

Activity Points

A student shall earn 2 credits by actively involving in co-curricular, extracurricular and other activities as per the guidelines issued by the SBTE from time to time. On getting minimum 60 activity points the student earns two credits which shall not be counted for the calculation of CGPA but mandatory for the award of the Diploma. For the students admitted under lateral entry scheme the 2 credits shall be considered to be earned on getting 40 activity points. The students are required to keep a file containing documentary proof of activities done by him/her get it attested by the Faculty Advisor and submit a copy of the same to the Faculty Advisor.

Minimum Requirements for Earning Credit

A candidate must secure a minimum of 40% marks in the End Semester Examination for theory and a combined 40% marks for internal and external assessment put together in th3eory and practical courses to secure the credit for the course. Students must secure a minimum of 40% marks, for courses having Continuous Internal Assessment alone or End Semester Examination alone.

Grading System

The State Board of Technical Education shall award Letter Grade to students based on the marks secured by them in both internal assessment and end of semester Examinations for each course. The grading system based on the marks scored, are as follows

Classification

To be eligible for the award of diploma for a particular programme a student should earn the requisite number of credits through successful completion of the courses of study.

There will be three classifications of successful candidates:

Faculty and Staff

KPTC has a dedicated team of teachers who are committed to igniting the spark of creativity and inspiring a quest for knowledge in the minds of students. Qualified and experienced faculty aimed to motivate students to gain knowledge by using their personal qualities and their positive experiences.

Library

Library is kept open on all working days from 8.45 am to 4.30pm. Identity Card is compulsory for getting access to the Library. Students shall enter his/her name and signature in the register kept at the entrance counter before entering Library. Strict discipline must be maintained in the Library. Registration should be done to become a Library member prior using the Library resources. No personal belongings allowed inside the Library. Readers are requested to handle all Library property carefully to avoid damages and also not to disturb other readers/users. Use of cell phone is not allowed. The Librarian may recall any book from any member at any time and the member shall return the same immediately. Library borrower cards are not transferable. The borrower is responsible for the books borrowed on his/her card.

Canteen

The College canteen offers an extensive menu in a comfortable environment. Utmost care is taken to maintain cleanliness. The canteen is monitored at regular intervals by the canteen committee members. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8.00am to 8.00pm.

Photocopying and Stationery Store

Students can purchase laboratory records, stationery items for personal use. Pricing is reviewed and approved by the college authority. Students can avail of photocopying facility here.

Student Assistant

KPTC offers a vibrant and secure campus life to students. This college delights students with sports, arts, Kallari, music band, workshops, basketball court and playgrounds.

Academic mentor

Student academic mentor, who is a faculty member, will provide information regarding course offerings, attendance regulations, placement opportunities and educational guidance in addition to providing counselling.
